Residents near Wickenburg placed in 'SET' status for Monarch Fire

The Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management has issued warnings regarding the Monarch Fire, currently burning in the Wickenburg and Allah regions. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for possible evacuation.

This wildfire has already spread across 148 acres, influenced by winds reaching speeds of 20 miles per hour. As of July 1, there remains 0% containment, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

Those living in the areas from Rio Vista Hills to Saguaro Blossom Lane, both east and west of U.S. 60, have been placed on “SET” wildfire status. Access to U.S. 60 may be restricted as air operations continue, involving fire retardant drops.

In response to the ongoing wildfire threat, Maricopa County Parks announced the closure of the Hassayampa River Preserve on July 2.

Residents in at-risk zones are urged to prepare an emergency supply kit ahead of time. This kit should be easily accessible for quick evacuation if necessary. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) emphasizes the importance of having essential items ready.

Recommended items include three gallons of water per person, a three-day supply of non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, necessary medications, and copies of critical family documents in a waterproof container.

The NFPA also suggests having a sleeping bag or warm blanket, a battery-powered radio, dust masks, waterproof matches, and a complete change of clothing. For a full checklist of supplies, the NFPA provides additional resources.
