In a recent announcement, Arizona State Representative Lupe Diaz, alongside fellow House Republicans, declared plans to honor law enforcement officers on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, slated for January 9th. The event aims to recognize the dedication and sacrifices made by these professionals across Arizona and the nation.

“In a time when mismanaged cities and misguided politicians are pushing to defund law enforcement, Arizona House Republicans stand firmly and proudly with our law enforcement professionals,” Diaz stated in the press release. He emphasized the group’s ongoing commitment to supporting the brave individuals who protect communities and ensure public safety.

The initiative encourages the public to engage by thanking officers, wearing blue, and sharing appreciation messages through social media with the hashtag #LawEnforcementAppreciationDay.

Tragically, 2024 witnessed the loss of four law enforcement officers in the line of duty, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page. Officer Zane Tristan Coolidge, 29, of the Phoenix Police Department, was shot on September 6th while responding to a suspect. Detective Ryan So, 38, of Scottsdale, died due to an accidental discharge on June 13th. Gila River Tribal Police Officer Joshua Briese, 24, was fatally shot while in training on June 1st. Additionally, Tucson Police Lead Officer Adam Buckner, 31, was killed in a vehicle collision on March 31st while on duty.

The Arizona State Troopers Association (ASTA) also encourages public support through activities such as purchasing postcards to thank officers. They highlight the importance of acknowledging officers’ efforts, suggesting that written notes to their superiors can be a significant morale booster.

Letters to the editor in local newspapers and gestures like providing treats from community bakeries are also recommended as ways to express gratitude.

Representative Diaz serves the 19th Legislative District and chairs the House Land, Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee.
