Rep. Crane Rejoins Homeland Security Committee, Teaming Up with Fellow SEAL for Oversight
By Matthew Holloway |
Incumbent Republican Congressman Eli Crane (AZ-02) has officially taken his oath of office, reaffirming his position on the House Committee on Homeland Security. In addition to this role, he will collaborate with fellow Navy SEAL Rep. John McGuire (R-VA-05) and Congressional Freshman Class President Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX-26) on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
Following his swearing-in, Crane emphasized the importance of open-minded investigations, stating, “Any investigation needs to be open-minded even if it challenges the official narrative.” His commitment to examining all theories reflects a broader principle of accountability.
Expressing his priorities, Crane stated, “I came to Washington to drain the Swamp and fight to secure our border. In the 119th Congress, I’ll be a committee member of both Oversight and Homeland Security, playing a direct role in fulfilling both of those objectives.” He reiterated his dedication to the constituents of Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District.
Details regarding Crane’s specific subcommittee assignments remain pending. Previously, he served on the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence, as well as the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability.
On the same day he resumed his committee responsibilities, Crane highlighted the passage of the Laken Riley Act in a statement. This legislation would permit state attorneys general to sue the Secretary of Homeland Security for actions that may harm state interests, such as breaches of immigration policy or detention requirements. The bill also aims to mandate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehend illegal aliens involved in theft-related offenses.
“I’m pleased to report that the Laken Riley Act passed out of the House of Representatives,” Crane remarked. “This bill will protect our communities and give our law enforcement agencies the resources they need to prevent avoidable tragedies. It’s appalling that 159 Democrats sided with criminal aliens by voting against this commonsense measure. Despite this opposition, we were able to get the bill across the finish line.”
