Red-Light Runner Triggers Afternoon Traffic Chaos Near MCG

Traffic on the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway was disrupted this afternoon due to a two-vehicle collision caused by a driver allegedly running a red light. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., according to Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department.
Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage, with one resting atop a flattened turn-lane signpost. Airbags deployed, and the crash blocked the center median and turn lane, leading to significant delays in both directions.
Medical personnel from the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department evaluated the drivers on-site. No immediate medical transports were reported, though it remains uncertain if either driver required hospital care afterward.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Notably, a similar crash on the same highway last Friday, also caused by a red-light runner, resulted in both drivers being hospitalized.
As of 5:06 p.m., the roadway has been cleared, confirmed the MPD spokesperson.
