Recall issued for bologna, inspectors say packages may have undeclared types of meat

Over 143,000 pounds of bologna have been recalled due to undeclared meats, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced. The recall affects products produced by Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. of New Jersey, following a complaint that led to an investigation by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

These ready-to-eat meat products, produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025, contain pork, beef, and chicken that were not listed on the labeling. The affected brands include “Family Tree Bologna Veal,” “Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna,” and several others with undeclared meats.

Labeling discrepancies have made it challenging for consumers to identify the affected bologna. All recalled items bear the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA inspection mark. Products may have been sold at retail locations nationwide, and in some cases, may have been repackaged by stores.

The FSIS has reported no illnesses linked to the recall, but advises consumers to avoid eating any of the recalled items. The recall is categorized as Class III, which implies a low health risk for the general public. However, it poses potential issues for individuals with specific dietary restrictions or allergies.

Consumers are urged to check their homes for the recalled products and to dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase. Restaurants and food service operations should also refrain from serving the affected bologna.
