Rays outlast Diamondbacks 7-6 in 11 innings, overcoming Carroll's 2 HRs

PHOENIX — In a thrilling matchup, the Arizona Diamondbacks fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 in an 11-inning game on Wednesday night. Corbin Carroll showcased his power, hitting home runs in both the first and seventh innings. However, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for the D-backs.

Kameron Misner and Yandy Díaz stepped up for the Rays, delivering crucial RBI doubles in the extra inning. Misner’s double drove in Chandler Simpson, although he was caught attempting to stretch it into a triple. Jonathan Aranda walked and later scored on Díaz’s timely hit.

Arizona’s Eric Orze struggled in the bottom of the 11th, allowing an RBI single to Alek Thomas and walking Tim Tawa. Carroll, who had already been a standout, loaded the bases with a one-out walk. Unfortunately for the D-backs, Orze managed to escape the jam by inducing a game-ending double play from Geraldo Perdomo, marking his first career save.

Pete Fairbanks secured the win by recording the final two outs in the 10th inning. Carroll initiated the scoring with a home run on the third pitch from Rays starter Taj Bradley. He later added his second homer of the night in the seventh inning, putting the D-backs ahead 5-4.

Díaz had a two-run single in the seventh, bringing Tampa Bay back to a 4-3 lead, but Chandler Simpson’s subsequent single tied the game at five. Meanwhile, Christopher Morel tied the game for Tampa Bay with a homer in the second inning.

Despite this loss, the D-backs remain strong, as they began the day with an MLB-best .961 OPS from their leading scorers. They have dominated right-handed pitchers with an .832 OPS, the highest in the majors.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will face off against RHP Drew Rasmussen, who holds a 0.87 ERA, while RHP Corbin Burnes, with a record of 0-1 and a 4.64 ERA, will take the mound for Arizona on Thursday night.
