Ralston Road’s Vekol Wash Crossing Set for Year-Long Closure: What You Need to Know

The Vekol Wash crossing along Ralston Road will be closed for one year as county crews begin renovations to create an all-weather roadway. This closure affects drivers in Hidden Valley and Thunderbird Farms, who should plan accordingly.
Pinal County Development Services announced that the project will start on July 7, focusing on the construction of a culvert and enhanced crossing over Vekol Wash. This initiative aims to improve public safety in the area.
Supervisor Rich Vitiello (R-Maricopa) highlighted the project’s importance. “It’s a public safety issue. We’ve got to make sure that our residents in this area have a safe way to get through this and not get washed out,” he stated in a recent government video.
Despite the ongoing construction, essential services such as gas, water, and electricity will remain uninterrupted, according to District Project Manager Kenneth White. He emphasized the project’s dual purpose: enhancing safety and upgrading infrastructure. “Not only are we trying to make this a safer asset for the community, it’s actually going to upgrade the water line and everything else for the future,” White noted.
During the closure, residents may use Mockingbird Lane and Jean Drive as detours. Access to the Thunderbird Fire Station and the Thunderbird Rodeo Arena will remain unaffected, officials confirmed.
Signage at the site indicates that the project is expected to run from July 7 through July 3, 2026.
