Other R.M. shooter threatened multiple murders, fired near children, suggest police reports

The corner of Nina Street and Piccolo Drive was the scene of a significant police operation on May 14, 2025. Officers arrested 22-year-old Davie Ray Lane following a tense confrontation where he allegedly fired a weapon.

Assistance from the Maricopa Police Department helped clarify the details of two separate shootings that occurred within hours of each other in Rancho Mirage, highlighting the seriousness of the incidents.

Lane’s troubles began around 8:30 p.m. when officers responded to a 911 call regarding threats made with a firearm against local residents. At the scene, officers spoke with several victims who reported that Lane, a resident of Piccolo Drive, had confronted them after witnessing one of them at a nearby park.

The situation escalated rapidly. Witnesses stated that Lane demanded to speak to one of the individuals and threatened to shoot both them and their dog if they refused. When the residents closed the door, Lane allegedly returned within minutes, verbally attacking all seven victims.

As tensions rose and the group attempted to leave, Lane reportedly struck one victim in the face, leading to a physical altercation. He then brandished a pistol, making threats toward a female, possibly a minor. Bystanders reported that Lane counted to three before discharging a round into the ground, with several nearby, including individuals whose identities were redacted and likely included children.

After Lane’s apprehension, he admitted to firing the weapon. A search of his residence revealed a firearm in the garage and a spent .22 caliber casing. Surveillance footage from a neighbor captured Lane firing into the ground in proximity to others.

Police later discovered Lane had an outstanding warrant from Maricopa City Court for a separate offense. He was taken into custody just before 9 p.m. and transferred to the Pinal County Adult Detention Center.

Lane faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, threatening and intimidating, and seven counts of disorderly conduct. Fortunately, no injuries resulting from the gunfire were reported.
