Sunnyslope High School Opens New Store Space
Victor’s Place, a marketing program store at Sunnyslope High School, has relocated to a new and improved space. To commemorate the occasion, students organized a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This store has been a significant part of the school’s culture since its inception by the Intro to Business students in 2002.
National Merit Semifinalists Announced
The Glendale Union High School District recently recognized several students from Greenway, Moon Valley, Sunnyslope, and Thunderbird High Schools as Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Noteworthy students include Zade Moabi, Lynn Ong, Emanuel Jacobs, Avery Lopez, Asia Martin, Joshua Katzman, and Naomi Walsh.
During a regular meeting, the governing board presented each semifinalist with a certificate of achievement. Those present, including family and community members, learned about the rigorous process required to achieve this distinguished status.

Washington Students Package Meals for the Needy
In September, members of Washington High School’s Interact Club and Cross Country team dedicated their time to packing meals for children in need at Feed My Starving Children. Their efforts resulted in nearly 1,500 meals, destined for communities across the globe.
Thunderbird High School Hosts College Fair
Recently, Thunderbird High School organized a college fair aimed at senior students, featuring representatives from over 20 institutions. This event allowed students to explore various educational opportunities, including universities, community colleges, and vocational schools.
Madison School District Invites Families to Discover Madison Tours
The Madison School District plans to host its annual Discover Madison Tour on November 15 for families with kindergarten-aged children. Additionally, a middle school tour for fifth-grade students will occur on November 22, allowing families to learn about the district’s programs.
Grant Received for Garden Program at Simis Elementary
Madison Simis Elementary School secured an $8,450 grant from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation to enhance its garden program. This funding enables students to grow produce that will be shared with the local community.
Recognition for PBIS Programs in Madison Schools
Five schools within the Madison School District were acknowledged for their effective Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiatives by PBISAz. Madison Heights, Madison Meadows, and Madison No. 1 received the Level 2 award, while Madison Traditional Academy and Madison Park attained Level 3 recognition.

Osborn School District Recognizes Volleyball Champions
Osborn Middle School’s staff triumphed in an intramural volleyball competition, emerging victorious among Clarendon Elementary and Encanto Elementary. The district celebrated the Firehawks’ win and also recognized the Clarendon team and Encanto Roadrunners for their spirited participation.
Osborn Schools Named Among America’s Healthiest
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation has recognized all six schools in the Osborn School District as “America’s Healthiest Schools.” This prestigious honor reflects the district’s commitment to wellness and improved nutrition.
Shadow Mountain High School Celebrates 50 Years
Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for October 25 to celebrate the 50th Year Jubilee of Shadow Mountain High School. The festivities will include a homecoming parade at 4 p.m., followed by a tailgating event and the homecoming football game.
Washington Elementary School District Increases Bus Driver Pay
The Washington Elementary School District has approved a new starting pay rate of $20 per hour for bus drivers. This initiative aims to attract dedicated individuals to the transportation team.
Teacher Recognized as Finalist for Teacher of the Year

APS Awards Recognize Teachers in WESD
Several teachers within WESD have been awarded funds through the APS Supply My Class program, aimed at supporting Title I educators with classroom resources. This year, four educators received $500 gift cards to enhance their teaching materials.
