Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD) received an extensive supply of donated school necessities aimed at supporting students in need. The donations were part of a Back-to-School Drive organized by the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce, Maricopa Pantry, and Exceptional Community Hospital.

Key MUSD figures, including Superintendent Tracey Lopeman, secondary instruction coach Staci Hayes, EdTech Coordinator Nicole Cantrell, and literacy coordinator Tina Leach, participated in the event. Also present were Exceptional Community Hospital’s chief nursing officer Annie Giagni and communications director AnnaMarie Knorr.

The collection included essentials such as pencils, notebooks, backpacks, clean wipes, paper towels, crayons, and scissors. Numerous donation boxes had been placed across the town in 13 business locations, including the lobby of the Province community’s recreation center and InMaricopa’s office.

The items were gathered and delivered to MUSD’s meeting-room lobby on Thursday evening. “We will deliver them to our school principals, and they will distribute them to their teachers,” Lopeman stated. “Then it gets into the hands of the kids, which is the best place. Lots of good art supplies, there’s good writing supplies, backpacks, so we’re thrilled. We’re so thankful for the generosity of the city of Maricopa, Province, the businesses.”

Officials revealed that nearly 70% of the donations came from Province community residents. At the InMaricopa office, five giant boxes were filled to the brim with donated items.

Bill Robertson, a Maricopa Planning and Zoning commissioner and Province resident, played a significant role in boosting donation efforts in the Province community, according to officials.
