Protestors dispersed after gathering ruled unlawful in Glendale

All roads were closed around the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale as police prepared for anticipated protests regarding immigration enforcement.

As of 6:30 p.m., crowds remained small, with only a handful of demonstrators present, holding signs expressing their views. The decision to block roads follows disturbances during a protest the previous Sunday, which escalated after dark.

According to the Glendale Police Department, approximately 1,000 individuals participated in the Sunday protest, initially peaceful but ultimately became chaotic. Attendees began blocking roads and igniting fireworks, escalating tensions with law enforcement.

Notably, a protester managed to jump into a police vehicle, driving it briefly before abandoning it and returning to the crowd. Authorities have stated no arrests were made in connection with this incident.

Throughout the protest, both Phoenix and Glendale police maintained a presence near the intersection of 67th Avenue and Camelback Road. Officers reported that five patrol vehicles were vandalized during the event, suffering broken windows, slashed tires, and other forms of damage.

At one point, a container behind a nearby business was set ablaze, further complicating the evening’s events.

Authorities are taking measures to ensure that protests do not escalate, maintaining a strong watch on the area while encouraging peaceful demonstrations.
