Protest Erupts as ASU Group Pressures Students to Report to ICE
On Wednesday, the Arizona State University chapter of College Republicans United, a far-right organization, launched a controversial initiative encouraging students to report their peers to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This decision spurred a significant backlash.
On Friday, the group’s members set up a table outside Hayden Library, intending to advocate for their cause. However, their presence quickly attracted hundreds of pro-immigrant and anti-MAGA protesters.
The overwhelming turnout from opposition groups highlighted the community’s strong sentiment against the CRU’s message. Tensions rose as demonstrators voiced their support for immigrant rights, countering the CRU’s call for increased surveillance on students.
This event reflects the broader national debate on immigration policies and the role of advocacy groups in educational settings. The differing perspectives on campus continue to ignite passionate discussions, as participants from both sides express their viewpoints loudly and clearly.
