Prosecutors decline charges for man accused of unlawfully entering home

Lake Havasu City Police were summoned on August 31 to a residence in the 1800 block of Walnut Drive following reports of an intrusion. Witnesses claimed a man from California jumped the property’s fence and entered unauthorized.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Joseph C. Espinozaa from Ontario, will not face charges, as prosecutors opted not to file a complaint in Mohave Superior Court on September 5.

Officers arrived around 1:40 a.m. to find Espinozaa allegedly surrounded by the occupants of the home. He reportedly exhibited aggressive behavior toward police, even assuming a fighting stance. In response, an officer pushed him back, prompting Espinozaa to stumble before being subdued with handcuffs.

During questioning, Espinozaa claimed he was unaware of his location or how he arrived there. He also reported a stab wound, which was later examined by medical personnel who determined it was inconsistent with a stab injury.

The home’s occupants provided limited cooperation, declining to identify themselves or give further details about the incident. They alleged Espinozaa accessed the home by climbing over a fence and entering through the backdoor, and they suggested his injury was sustained during this act.

Following his arrest, Espinozaa was taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Once cleared, he was booked at the Lake Havasu City Police Department on a felony charge of criminal trespassing and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct.
