Prosecutors Decline Charges Against Woman Accused of Embezzling $4,000 from Employer
A Lake Havasu City woman won’t face felony charges after allegedly stealing thousands from her workplace and subsequently losing it at a local casino. This situation unraveled when the regional manager of the business, located on the 100 block of Acoma Boulevard, received a phone call from 35-year-old Yadira F. Adams.
On August 26, Adams informed her employer that she wouldn’t be able to work the next day. She reportedly left the business locked, prompting the regional manager to conduct a cash audit upon his arrival. The review uncovered a potential $4,000 discrepancy.
In a conversation about the missing funds, Adams allegedly confessed to taking as much as $1,700 and admitted to losing it all while gambling. Although she did not account for the remaining $3,300 that was also missing, she initially stated she only took $1,700.
When questioned by police the following day, Adams acknowledged being aware of missing funds from a prior audit, which indicated $2,000 was unaccounted for. She refrained from informing her employer out of fear of termination.
During the course of the investigation, Adams admitted to the theft occurring between July 31 and August 28 and expressed willingness to repay the amount. However, her situation escalated when officers found 2.4 grams of methamphetamine and a pipe during her arrest.
Adams was taken into custody at the scene on charges of theft and additional felony counts relating to drug possession and paraphernalia. However, court records indicate that on August 30, prosecutors chose not to file felony charges against her in Mohave Superior Court. Efforts to obtain further clarification from Mohave County prosecutors about this decision were unsuccessful as of Thursday afternoon.
