Prosecutors and Defense Strike Negotiation in High-Stakes Armed Robbery Case

Tony L. Crawford, a 40-year-old man from Lake Havasu City, is potentially approaching a plea agreement regarding serious felony charges he faces. This development comes as he awaits trial on 12 felony counts, including aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.

Court documents indicate that prosecutors have presented a plea deal to Crawford, which his defense attorneys are currently evaluating. A status conference has been scheduled for November 14 by Judge Derek Carlisle, where Crawford will decide whether to accept the plea. The specifics of the offer will remain confidential unless he agrees to its terms.

The legal troubles began on August 5, following an alleged shooting incident at a residence on Mescalero Drive. Witnesses claim that Crawford discharged approximately 26 rounds at the house before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.

Shortly after the shooting, Crawford reportedly entered a Texaco convenience store, brandishing a loaded firearm and demanding cash from the clerk. He threatened two customers during the incident, which was captured on surveillance cameras.

Subsequently, Crawford is accused of robbing Pancho Villa Taco Shop at gunpoint. Following this second robbery, he led police on a three-mile chase after failing to stop when officers attempted to pull him over. During the pursuit, he allegedly discarded large amounts of cash from his vehicle.

Law enforcement finally intercepted Crawford at the site of the original shooting. Officers detained him at gunpoint, recovering a total of $771 from the roadside, which had been discarded during the chase.

Investigator Nelson has stated that Crawford confessed to both robbery incidents when questioned. The implications of such admissions may significantly impact the forthcoming trial proceedings.
