President Biden to address the nation for first time since Election Day

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is set to deliver a speech from the Rose Garden Thursday morning, marking his first public appearance since Donald Trump’s recent election victory. The address is scheduled for 11 a.m. Eastern time.

In the speech, Biden is anticipated to echo the sentiments expressed by Vice President Kamala Harris in her concession to Trump, where she emphasized unity. “The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” Harris remarked during her address at Howard University. She urged resilience, stating, “the light of America’s promise will always burn bright, as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”

Harris also underscored the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and expressed gratitude towards her family and political allies, including Biden himself. “A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results,” she noted emphatically.

In a call to Trump on Wednesday, Biden extended an invitation for a meeting at the White House. “President Trump looks forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly,” confirmed Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung.

As the transition unfolds, Biden’s chief of staff urged the Trump team to finalize necessary federal agreements to ensure a smooth transfer of power, according to a White House official. Biden’s administration has seen significant events, including navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and advocating for global support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

After a single term marked by considerable achievements, Biden will step aside for Trump, who is poised to shift the federal government dramatically. Trump, having faced multiple political challenges, remains committed to reversing many of Biden’s initiatives.
