Prescott police officer indicted for manslaughter in 2024 shooting

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that a grand jury in Yavapai County has indicted Prescott police officer Brian Sutton for manslaughter.

The indictment stems from an incident that occurred in June 2024, when Sutton confronted Daniel Leslie outside his home. During this encounter, Sutton fired his service weapon while Leslie was unarmed and moving toward his residence.

Leslie was subsequently shot and died later at the hospital. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Department of Public Safety, as indicated by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

The case was referred to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in September 2024 due to a conflict of interest, leading to the grand jury’s decision to indict Sutton.
