Winds are set to increase and temperatures will begin to drop in Arizona, signaling the arrival of a significant weather system midweek.

As the new workweek unfolds, conditions are reminiscent of the prior weekend. Monday will see cloud cover with above-normal temperatures, particularly in the lower deserts where highs will reach the mid to upper 70s. In the high country, temperatures will hover in the 50s and 60s.

come Tuesday, the situation will shift dramatically. Southwest winds will pick up, gusting between 20 to 25 mph in the lower deserts and reaching up to 40 mph in elevated areas. Valley temperatures are expected to fall from the upper 70s to the lower 70s as the day progresses.

A well-organized weather system is on track to affect Arizona, bringing widespread rain and mountain snow. This precipitation is anticipated from late Thursday through Friday. Residents are advised to prepare for the potential impact, with measured valley rainfall possibly reaching a quarter of an inch. Foothills and higher terrain could see even greater amounts, while the mountains might experience several inches of snow.

With the passage of this system, Arizona will start to dry out by Saturday morning, leading to a rebound in temperatures by Sunday.
