Polls Reveal Surging Public Backing for Mass Deportation of Undocumented Immigrants

By Matthew Holloway |
Recent polling data indicates a strong public consensus favoring the mass deportation of illegal immigrants in the United States. This sentiment spans various demographics, including race, political affiliation, and economic status. Lawmakers in Arizona have emerged as key proponents of this viewpoint, aligning closely with the prevailing opinion among constituents.
In a statement following his electoral win, President-Elect Donald J. Trump highlighted this widespread support. “They’re coming by the thousands,” he stated in a video on Truth Social, emphasizing his commitment to securing borders and restoring national sovereignty.
According to a Scripps News/Ipsos survey, about 54% of Americans support deportation, including 25% of Democrats and an impressive 86% of Republicans. Notably, 58% of Independents also expressed their approval of deportation measures. These numbers reflect a significant bipartisan agreement on harsh immigration policies.
Further reinforcing this trend, an Axios Vibes survey by The Harris Poll found that 51% of Americans support mass deportations, with 42% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans backing such actions. Even among Latinos and Black Americans, substantial segments—45% and 40%, respectively—favor deportation efforts.
A Fox News Poll released in mid-October underscored a rising trend in support for deportation since 2015. Notably, this rise is significant among nonwhite voters, Republicans, rural voters, urban voters, and men—all of whom reported increased support for such measures compared to previous years.
Amidst this backdrop, Arizona Congressman Eli Crane (R) has been a vocal critic of the Department of Homeland Security under President Biden, frequently clashing with Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Crane’s position echoes the sentiments shared by his Arizona colleagues.
Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) emphasized the necessity of mass deportations alongside no amnesty options in a post on X earlier this year. Similarly, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) made headlines with his unequivocal statement that “All illegal aliens must be deported. Period.”
Trump’s appointment of Tom Homan, the former acting director of ICE, as “border czar” has invigorated discussions around the mass deportation policy promised during Trump’s campaign. Reports suggest that the morale among Border Patrol agents has significantly increased, with National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez stating the agency’s spirit is “through the roof.” He shared that many agents, previously considering retirement, are now motivated to continue serving under the new administration.
As the conversation around immigration policy intensifies, Arizona’s congressional leaders remain at the forefront, reflecting the evolving attitudes of the American public on these pressing issues.
