Police Report: Rancho Mirage Man Jumps Fences in Epic Hallucination

A Maricopa man has been arrested after allegedly causing a scene while under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms in the Rancho Mirage neighborhood. Varley J. Hilt Jr., 31, was taken into custody on Friday following reports from residents regarding a chaotic intruder.
According to police reports, residents called 911 after spotting a shirtless Hilt jumping fences and entering private properties without permission. One concerned caller noted that he appeared to be “on shrooms” and referenced similar incidents in the past.
Law enforcement responded at approximately 6:20 p.m., tracking Hilt to a residence on Nina Street. Upon arriving, officers heard disturbances inside before gaining access. They discovered Hilt laughing uncontrollably and speaking incoherently, having already trespassed on multiple properties.
One victim reported that Hilt unexpectedly jumped over her backyard wall, prompting her to call for criminal charges. Another resident recorded Hilt wandering aimlessly around his yard, where he disregarded multiple requests to leave. He eventually attempted to escape by scaling a ladder over a wall, only to be met by waiting officers.
When arrested, Hilt allegedly refused to provide his name on two occasions, revealing it only after being threatened with further charges. Authorities confirmed his identity through a family member and police records. He faces charges of first-degree criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and failure to provide identification and was subsequently booked into the Pinal County jail.
