Police: Multiple felony charges for man who refused to cooperate with CPS officers

A 37-year-old man from Lake Havasu City, William R. Sanders, is set to face arraignment in Mohave Superior Court following his recent arrest on charges related to kidnapping and indecent exposure involving minors.

On August 21, officers from the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) visited Sanders’ residence on Tamarack Drive as part of a court order to assess the welfare of four children living there. Initial reports indicated that DCS officials were denied full access, but Sanders eventually allowed them to observe the children, who appeared unharmed.

However, DCS informed local police of the incident, prompting a subsequent visit by the Lake Havasu City Police Department on August 23. Sanders reportedly opened his door but quickly shut it when officers sought to discuss the court order. After a brief conversation over the phone, he refused to accept any court documents left by the police.

Faced with ongoing non-compliance and argumentative behavior, police made several attempts to engage Sanders, all of which proved unsuccessful. Consequently, he was arrested later that evening on four counts of kidnapping.

Despite his initial arrest, court records indicate that Mohave County prosecutors opted not to proceed with that case. Instead, Sanders now faces a felony charge of indecent exposure, filed in Lake Havasu City Justice Court on August 27. He was released on a $5,000 bond the following day.

As of this week, the police report detailing the indecent exposure claim has yet to be released, leaving many questions unanswered. Sanders remains free as preparations for his upcoming court proceedings continue.
