The Pima Community College softball team has made a significant impact in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) recently, with two standout players earning accolades for their performances during the week of February 2-8.
Freshman Jiselle Nunez, hailing from Tucson Magnet High School, was named the ACCAC Division II Player of the Week. Her contributions were pivotal as the Aztecs achieved decisive sweeps against both Glendale Community College and Paradise Valley Community College. Over three games, Nunez demonstrated exceptional skill, batting .667 with 11 RBIs, seven runs, three doubles, a grand slam, a triple, and a stolen base.
In tandem, freshman Arianna Flores from Salpointe Catholic High School secured her third consecutive honor as the ACCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week. Over two starts, she excelled, pitching nine innings without allowing earned runs. Flores limited opponents to three hits while racking up an impressive 23 strikeouts and issuing seven walks. Her outstanding performances also earned her accolades for the weeks of January 19-25 and January 26-February 1.
Currently ranked No. 15, the Aztecs recently swept No. 25 South Mountain Community College. They will continue their campaign on Friday when they face Scottsdale Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader, starting at noon.
