Navarro & Garate each net 2 as Pima women's soccer scores 7 to trounce Mesa

The Pima Community College women’s soccer team improved to 4-0 on Tuesday, dominating Mesa Community College in an ACCAC conference match. Ranked No. 15, the Aztecs secured a convincing 7-0 victory against the Thunderbirds, who fell to 2-2 this season.

Kristal Navarro emerged as a standout player, scoring two late goals in the 87th and 89th minutes. Her contributions began early in the game with an assist on the first goal scored by Samantha Mendez in the 3rd minute. Navarro’s performance underscored the Aztecs’ offensive depth and coordination.

Another key player, Garate, showcased her skills with two goals, opening the scoring with a powerful shot from 35 yards just before halftime. She added her second goal in the 83rd minute, extending the lead to 5-0 with help from sophomore Viviana Sanchez.

Sophomore Camila Razcon contributed to the scoring spree with a goal in the 51st minute, while freshman Ashley Martinez followed up with another goal just minutes later, increasing the lead to 4-0. Mendez assisted on Martinez’s goal, highlighting the team’s excellent teamwork.

Throughout the match, the Aztecs registered a total of 19 shots on goal, demonstrating their offensive prowess. Freshman goalkeeper Brooke Valencia made five saves in 60 minutes, and Phoebe Knisley took over for the final 30 minutes, adding two more saves to her tally.

Looking ahead, Pima will face GateWay Community College on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Mesa Community College, aiming to maintain their perfect record.
