Pima Women’s Basketball Triumphs Over Central Arizona with Double-Digit Stars Sours-Miller, Hoffmeyer & Land

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team achieved a significant milestone on Sunday, securing their 10th win of the season during the Aztec Holiday Classic. With a record now standing at 10-3, the No. 13-ranked Aztecs triumphed over Central Arizona College with a final score of 75-59, thanks to a powerful 20-6 run in the fourth quarter.
Entering halftime, the Aztecs held a narrow 36-31 lead after concluding the second quarter with a 10-4 run. They extended their advantage at the start of the third quarter with an 11-3 surge, pushing the score to 47-34. Central Arizona responded resiliently with an 8-0 run, narrowing the gap to 47-42, but Pima maintained a 51-44 lead moving into the final quarter.
Sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) ignited the Aztecs in the fourth, sinking a three-pointer that restored their double-digit lead at 54-44. Following this, a three-point play from sophomore Kennedi Niemann spurred the team into their dominant run, ultimately leading to their largest lead of the game at 71-50.
Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller stood out with a double-double performance, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds while shooting an impressive 9 for 12 from the field. Additionally, sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) contributed significantly, finishing the game with 15 points and eight rebounds from 5 of 8 shooting.
Freshman Lucy Land had a stellar performance off the bench, contributing 11 points without missing a shot—going 4 for 4 overall, including a perfect 1 for 1 from beyond the arc and 2 for 2 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed five rebounds. Vital rounded out the scoring with nine points.
Sophomore Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino HS) and Niemann showcased strong playmaking skills, each dishing out six assists. Niemann also contributed seven points and five rebounds, while Buffill-Gutierrez added four points.
The Aztecs will wrap up their participation in the Aztec Holiday Classic on Monday, facing Cuyamaca College with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
