Thompson & Camacho throw gems as Pima softball sweeps Scottsdale for 12th straight win

The Pima Community College softball team achieved a notable double victory on the road against Scottsdale Community College, solidifying their status as a leading contender in the ACCAC. With these wins, the Aztecs improve their record to 45-5 overall and 33-5 in conference play, extending their winning streak to 12 games.

In the first game, Pima, ranked eighth nationally, triumphed over the Artichokes with a score of 4-1. Sophomore pitcher Jessica Thompson delivered a stellar performance, striking out 11 batters while allowing just one earned run over seven innings. The Aztecs provided sufficient run support, scoring two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Sophomore Natalya Rivera kicked off the scoring with a hit, followed by key contributions from Jiselle Nunez and Alyssa Noriega. Noriega finished the game with two RBIs, helping secure the win for Pima.

The second matchup turned in Pima’s favor as well, with the final score reading 7-2. Freshman Belen Camacho showcased her skills on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out eight batters. After initially trailing 1-0, the Aztecs ignited their offense in the third inning, scoring five runs. Highlights included a two-run home run from Aubrey Marx and a solo shot from Nunez, both of which contributed to Pima’s commanding lead. The offense did not stop there, adding two more runs in the seventh inning.

Marx ended the game with impressive stats, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nunez matched her performance, also finishing 2 for 4 with an RBI. Other contributors included Talia Martin and Clarissa Figueroa, each adding to the scoreboard.

Pima Community College will next face Chandler-Gilbert Community College in a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, with the first game set to start at noon.
