Pima Softball Dominates Mesa: Martin Racks Up Four RBIs While Flores Strikes Out 12
The Pima Community College softball team opened its ACCAC conference play with a doubleheader against Mesa Community College on Saturday, achieving a dominant performance. The Aztecs improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference after outscoring the Thunderbirds with an impressive 18 runs throughout the day.
Sophomore Talia Martin led the offensive charge, ending the day with four hits, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Another standout, Alyssa Noriega, contributed significantly with three hits, one RBI, and three runs. Freshman pitcher Arianna Flores showcased her skills in the first game, completing the game with a stellar performance on the mound.
In the first game, the Aztecs secured a 3-1 victory. The team took the lead in the fourth inning with back-to-back singles from freshmen Jiselle Nunez and Noriega. A sacrifice fly from Julissa Lopez brought in a run, followed by an RBI double from Amerika Lopez-Bedoy, extending their lead to 2-0. Despite a solo home run by Mesa’s Alyssa Antillon in the seventh, Flores closed out the game, securing the win.
The second game was a demonstration of dominance, with the Aztecs winning 15-0 in five innings. They started strong, scoring eight runs in the first inning, with Martin hitting a three-run homer to center field. The scoring continued in the second inning and through to the fourth, showcasing the team’s offensive depth.
Martin again proved critical, ending the game with three RBIs, while Bracamonte and Otero also had significant contributions. Sophomore Jessica Thompson earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing only three hits.
The Aztecs will look to maintain their momentum as they host Glendale Community College for their home opener at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Tuesday. The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at noon.
