Pima County School Sup't accepting applications for Continental School Board vacancy

Pima County Superintendent of Schools Dustin Williams is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Continental School Governing Board. This vacancy was created by the resignation of Kelley Allen, who has served on the board for the past four years.

Allen’s departure follows a tenure that included her children starting at the district’s schools in 2011. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ms. Allen for her commitment and contributions to education within the Continental community. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” expressed Williams.

The Continental School District serves approximately 650 elementary students in the Green Valley area. The appointed individual will fulfill the remaining term, which lasts until the end of 2026.

Applications for the interim position will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 1. Interviews and the selection of the new board member will take place in August. Candidates must submit an affidavit of qualification and a candidate appointment questionnaire to be considered.

While the school board can recommend three candidates to Williams within 30 days, he is not legally required to select from that list.

In contrast to municipal and county governments, which manage their own vacancies, school board positions are filled by the county school superintendent as per state law. The new appointee will serve until December 31, 2026, with a new four-year term scheduled for election that November.
