Pima County Residents Urged to Share Input on Exciting New RTA Next Projects
The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is actively engaging the public for feedback on a proposed $2.46 billion regional transportation plan that may go to voters next year. This initiative aims to enhance transportation across the region, ensuring benefits for all users, regardless of their location.
The draft plan emphasizes modernizing existing roadways with a strong focus on improving bicycle and pedestrian accessibility. This will primarily involve the removal of travel lanes and the construction of new sidewalks. In addition, the plan addresses various aspects of improved safety, active transportation, transit options, and more, all detailed on the RTA Next website.
Funding for this ambitious 20-year plan would come from an extension of the RTA’s half-cent sales tax, contingent on voter approval. The current plan and sales tax structure are set to remain in effect until June 2026.
The online survey seeks public opinion on whether the draft meets regional needs. It inquires about project priorities and the community’s willingness to support the plan and sales tax during the upcoming election. Additionally, the survey asks participants to assess funding levels for specific projects, using a “Goldilocks” approach to determine if amounts are deemed too low, too high, or just right.
Following the public review, the RTA board will finalize the plan for ballot consideration, tentatively scheduled for November 2025.
