Pima County JP Alexander Ball resigning in May

Pima County Justice of the Peace Alexander Ball announced his resignation, effective May 1. Ball, a Democrat in the early stages of his second term, expressed gratitude for serving Precinct 6 in his resignation letter to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

In his letter, Ball stated, “I’m grateful to have worked alongside many dedicated public servants to administer justice in the community. I remain as dedicated as ever to the principle of Justice for ALL.” Justices of the Peace handle cases such as misdemeanors, DUIs, minor lawsuits, and evictions within the Justice Court system, holding four-year terms.

Following Ball’s announcement, the Board of Supervisors initiated a process for his replacement, which will extend through December 2026. A special election to fill the last two years of Ball’s term is scheduled for 2026.

Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest, a resume, a financial disclosure statement, and conflict-of-interest forms to County Clerk Melissa Manriquez by 5 p.m. on April 25. Applications should be delivered to 33 N. Stone Ave., Suite 100, Tucson, AZ, 85701.

All applicants will undergo a background check. They must be at least 18 years old, an elector in Precinct 6, capable of reading and writing in English, and affiliated with the Democratic Party. The county board also decided to collaborate with the League of Women Voters to host a virtual forum for potential candidates.

The supervisors plan to select the new Justice of the Peace during their meeting on May 6.
