Phoenix will pay $3M after garbage truck fatally hits 21-year-old woman

A tragic incident in Phoenix has resulted in a significant financial decision by the city council. The council has agreed to a $3 million settlement related to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Orianna N. Diosdado, who tragically lost her life after being struck by a sanitation truck.

Diosdado, 21, was walking in a marked crosswalk on February 15, 2024, at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive when the accident occurred. Reports indicate she was hit by a city garbage truck making a right-hand turn.

In response to the incident, Diosdado’s family lodged a wrongful death lawsuit against the city in Maricopa County Superior Court just months following the event. The council held a meeting on March 5 during which they opted to resolve the case through this substantial settlement.
