Phoenix PD Uncovers Disturbing Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Democrat Sheriff Contender Tyler Kamp

Tyler Kamp, a Democratic candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff, is under scrutiny following allegations of sexual harassment that have surfaced since July. The former lieutenant with the Phoenix Police Department is reportedly involved in a significant scandal that has drawn attention from various news organizations.
The controversy ignited when initial reports failed to address numerous critical questions regarding Kamp’s behavior. In pursuit of clarity, Maricopa County voter Brian Anderson, who is also a researcher and founder of the Saguaro Group, filed a records request with the Phoenix PD. Unfortunately, the department did not comply even after a demand letter was issued. Anderson subsequently initiated a lawsuit that ultimately compelled the police department to release records of its Internal Affairs/Equal Opportunity Employment investigation—though this response arrived a full ten months later.
Anderson’s attorney expressed concerns in a court filing, stating that the public’s inability to access Kamp’s personnel records prior to the primary election has hindered voters’ understanding of potentially significant issues ahead of the general election.
ABC15 reported in July that an investigation by the Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department uncovered troubling behavior. However, the initial report lacked substantial detail, consisting of only six pages. In contrast, the Internal Affairs report revealed under the lawsuit is a much more comprehensive eleven-page document that outlines damning findings against Kamp.
One victim detailed her experiences and described a pattern of harassment involving inappropriate comments both in the workplace and through various forms of communication. She reported ongoing harassment through text messages and phone calls, alongside pressures to meet in person for non-work-related matters. Kamp allegedly ignored multiple warnings regarding his inappropriate conduct.
Specific allegations included inappropriate remarks about her appearance and body. The victim recounted instances such as receiving propositions for social outings during their professional relationship, unsolicited comments regarding her attire, and unwelcome familiarity, which made her uncomfortable and fearful for her career.
Quotes from the victim highlight the pervasive nature of Kamp’s alleged harassment: he reportedly tracked her movements, made remarks on her clothing choices, and engaged in symbolic gestures that blurred professional boundaries. Such actions, she stated, led to significant emotional and mental distress, ultimately affecting her job performance and well-being.
In response to the allegations, Kamp reportedly denied the claims during an interview in November 2022. He characterized the text messages as “friendly banter” rather than harassment, asserting that his communications did not indicate any inappropriate intentions.
The unfolding developments regarding Kamp’s candidacy and the associated investigations remain a focal point of interest in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. As voters weigh their options, the implications of misconduct in law enforcement continue to reflect broader societal concerns related to accountability and workplace harassment.
