Phoenix metro area could see up to half inch of rain

PHOENIX — Central and southern Arizona residents should prepare for rain and cooler temperatures starting Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, as indicated by the National Weather Service (NWS).

The forecasts predict scattered, fast-moving showers and potential thunderstorms in the region. Although moisture levels are lower than earlier predictions, the storms that do develop could bring strong winds and hazardous conditions.

Areas such as Gila Bend, Casa Grande, Tucson, Phoenix, Wickenburg, and Prescott may receive between 0.1 and 0.5 inches of rainfall. In contrast, Globe and Payson could see higher totals, reaching up to an inch.

Moreover, flash flooding and minor roadway flooding remain a concern, particularly affecting the morning commute. The National Weather Service has cautioned that ponding water may occur in various locations.

For the Phoenix metro area, expected rainfall totals range from 0.2 to 0.5 inches, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms. The likelihood of strong winds is notable, with a 70% chance of gusts exceeding 35 mph and a 10% chance of 60 mph gusts or more.

Residents are urged to stay alert for potential strong winds and hazardous weather conditions, especially in and around any developing thunderstorms.

As the weather event unfolds, individuals are reminded to take precautions and monitor local forecasts for updates.
