Peoria police officers involved in shooting

Two police officers were hospitalized with minor injuries after an incident with a suspect in Peoria, Arizona, who ultimately died from his injuries, according to local authorities.

The series of events unfolded around 7 a.m. when surveillance footage prompted two nearby auto shops to report suspicious activity. The suspect was documented allegedly breaking into vehicles on their lots.

Michael Jonas, owner of Saguaro Motor Inc., received a call from the owner of Paul’s A2Z Auto Service, who informed him of the ongoing situation. Jonas quickly accessed his security system, discovering the man rummaging through the cars. “It was still dark out with his flashlight going through a bunch of cars and it lasted probably about 20-30 minutes,” Jonas recounted.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect still allegedly engaged in the break-ins. He reacted by entering his vehicle and attempting to flee. In a swift maneuver, he reversed his car, pinning two officers between his vehicle and another parked car, according to Peoria Police Public Information Officer Kristopher Babros.

In response to the threat, officers discharged their weapons. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s, received medical attention on-site but later succumbed to his injuries. Thankfully, the officers sustained only minor injuries and were not trapped by the vehicles.

The investigation has been handed over to the West Valley Investigative Response Team, with Buckeye police set to release further details.
