Pelosi has hip replacement surgery at a US military hospital in Germany after a fall

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi underwent hip replacement surgery on Saturday at a U.S. military hospital in Germany after suffering a fall during an event in Luxembourg. The incident occurred while she was attending a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Pelosi, 84, is reportedly “well on the mend,” according to Ian Krager, a spokesman for the California Democrat. She expressed gratitude to the staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and her earlier caregivers in Luxembourg, praising their “excellent care and kindness.”

Witnesses indicated that Pelosi fractured her hip after tripping at the event. A bipartisan congressional delegation, which included Rep. Michael McCaul from Texas, was present. McCaul shared on social media that he was “praying for a speedy recovery” for Pelosi, noting their camaraderie in a group photo taken at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg.

Pelosi, who has been a prominent figure in Congress since her election in 1987, served as Speaker of the House in two separate tenures. Although she stepped down from her leadership role two years ago, she remains an active member of Congress and was reelected to represent her San Francisco district last November.
