Pedestrian ran in front of truck, suffered ‘serious injuries’

Maricopa police and fire departments responded to a severe pedestrian-vehicle collision on Smith-Enke Road on August 7, 2024. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m., east of Santa Cruz Drive, according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch.

The accident involved a woman attempting to cross the road in front of an oncoming pickup truck. “The driver had noticed the woman on the side of the road and began to slow down,” said Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams. “However, the woman unexpectedly dashed across the road, and the driver couldn’t stop in time,” she added.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to a valley hospital. The pickup truck driver stayed at the scene and assisted police with their investigation. No citations were issued to the driver.
