PCC’s Pepe Soars to Victory: Two-Time Region I Champion in Pole Vault

The Pima Community College women’s track and field team showcased impressive performance on the first day of the Region I Championships held at Mesa Community College on Tuesday.
Ranked No. 9, the Aztecs currently lead the competition with a tally of 95 points. Mesa Community College follows with 77 points, while Central Arizona College ranks third at 73 points.
Sophomore Morgan Pepe defended her pole vault title, achieving a height of 3.61 meters (11 feet 10 inches) on her second attempt, which secured 10 points for the team.
In the long jump, sophomore Maylee Thompson claimed second place with a jump of 5.51 meters (18 feet 1 inch) during her fourth attempt, contributing eight points. Freshman Layla Konski closely followed, finishing third with a mark of 5.40 meters (17 feet 8.75 inches), earning another six points.
Freshman Karlee Pope also excelled, landing a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:01.49, securing eight additional points for the Aztecs.
The 4×800 relay team, comprising sophomore Linda Rivero, freshman Ella Allred, sophomore Alyssa Perez, and Reatta Danhof, placed second with a combined time of 9:40.36, contributing eight points to the team score.
Other noteworthy team finishes included:
- Morgan Mosley – Fourth place in hammer throw, 43.67 meters (143 feet 3 inches) earning 5 points.
- Cashlyn Proffitt – Fourth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 13:59.46 (5 points).
- Hannah Droeg – Fifth place in javelin, 38.76 meters (127 feet 2 inches) earning 4 points; eighth in long jump, 4.98 meters (16 feet 4.25 inches) earning 1 point; and eighth in pole vault, 2.41 meters (7 feet 10.75 inches) earning 1 point.
- Maylee Thompson – Seventh place in pole vault, 2.86 meters (9 feet 4.50 inches) earning 2 points; seventh in javelin, 35.52 meters (116 feet 10 inches) earning 2 points.
- Armani Lopez – Eighth place in javelin, 32.29 meters (105 feet 11 inches) earning 1 point.
The Aztecs will continue their pursuit of victory on the final day of the Region I Championships this Thursday.
