PCC's Castaneda nets 2, Ruiz & Montilla each score & lend assists

The Pima Community College men’s soccer team maintained its perfect record with a dominant performance during their home opener at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday. Facing off against Paradise Valley Community College, the No. 5-ranked Aztecs secured a resounding 5-0 victory.

Freshman Robert Castaneda, hailing from Nogales High School, kicked off the scoring spree by netting the first two goals in the first half. The assists came from sophomores Ismael Ruiz, a Tucson Magnet High School alumnus, and Jacob Lund-Iversen.

Ruiz then contributed to the scoreboard himself, increasing the lead to 3-0 with an assist from freshman Eythan Mancilla of Sunnyside High School.

Sophomore Missael Montilla, also from Tucson Magnet High School, played a crucial role in the latter stages of the match. He assisted Marco Reynoso’s goal, further extending the lead, before adding his own to make it 5-0, with Mancilla providing his second assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Cristerna Oleta recorded two saves during his 80 minutes on the field, while sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz held the line for the final 10 minutes without facing any shots. The Aztecs registered a total of 11 shots on target throughout the match.

Next up for the Aztecs is an away game against Mesa Community College, scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m.
