A third doping case arises at the Paris Olympics

PARIS, France — Afghan judoka Mohammad Samim Faizad has tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol at the Paris Olympics, the International Testing Agency confirmed Saturday. This marks the third doping violation at this year’s Games.

Faizad provided the sample during his initial bout, which ultimately led to the detection of the banned substance. Competing in the men’s 81-kilogram category, he was defeated by Austria’s Wachid Borchashvili on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old athlete, who turns 22 during the Olympics, has been disqualified and subsequently removed from the event. His disqualification is a setback for Afghanistan, as Faizad was their sole male athlete based in the country among a team comprising three men and three women.
