Paradise Valley rallies to keep its only post office open

Paradise Valley, AZ—The United States Postal Service (USPS) announced plans to close the only post office in Paradise Valley by the end of September. However, town officials are rallying to keep it open.

On June 2, the USPS informed local officials of its decision without providing further details. The Town Hall Post Office has served the community for 60 years and is considered a vital meeting place.

Mayor Mark Stanton emphasized the post office’s importance, stating, “Our Town post office pre-dates the current town hall and is a community hub for neighbors and friends.” He has reached out to state and federal leaders to advocate for its preservation.

The town council has contacted regional USPS representatives, highlighting that the USPS incurs no costs for the building, as the town provides supplies and personnel. Stanton noted that the post office is essential, particularly in a town lacking shopping malls or public gathering spaces.

“We don’t have shopping malls, libraries, or other public gathering spaces. People go to the post office, stop by and say hello to town employees, and often strike up conversations with neighbors,” Stanton added.

As it stands, the USPS plans to finalize the closure on September 30.
