PACC offering free microchips to dogs & cats ahead of 4th of July

As July 4 approaches, Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is taking proactive measures to combat the increase in lost pets due to fireworks. Each year, countless dogs become frightened and flee, leading to a surge in shelter admissions in Southern Arizona. In preparation, PACC is providing free microchipping services for dogs and cats through July 3.

Last year, the shelter reported 271 dogs entering its facility during this peak period. PACC is currently facing a critical situation with over 548 dogs in its care, prompting a focus on prevention this year. To assist pet owners in locating their animals, PACC is also offering free customized ID tags.

Paw owners in Pima County can visit PACC at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. from 12 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Shelter officials urge all pet guardians to keep their animals indoors during fireworks displays to minimize risk.

In an added incentive, all puppies and adult dogs at PACC are currently available for adoption at no cost. This initiative aims not only to reunite lost pets with their families but also to alleviate shelter overcrowding.
