PACC holding 'Mega Adoption' event this weekend

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is gearing up for a “Mega Adoption” event on August 10-11. The event promises extended hours, free adoptions, and several giveaways.

During this weekend, PACC will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Both Saturday and Sunday, all pets—cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies—can be adopted for free, though a $20 licensing fee is required for adult dogs residing in Pima County. Each adopted animal will be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and have current vaccinations.

Thanks to PACC’s nonprofit partner, Friends of PACC, free crates will be available for anyone adopting a dog weighing 40 pounds or more while supplies last.

Monica Dangler, PACC director, is optimistic about the community’s participation. “We hope to see our community come out in full force this weekend and help us find loving homes for many of our pets,” she said. “With so many animals in our shelter, there are countless options to choose from, ensuring you’ll find your new best friend at PACC.”

Currently, PACC houses 529 dogs and 91 cats, along with hundreds more pets in foster care seeking homes. The shelter’s dog kennels are overcapacity, often housing two or three dogs per kennel.

“Mega adoption events like this enable communities to unite and support adoptable animals and local shelters,” said Jessica Gutmann, senior strategist with Best Friends Animal Society. “Best Friends is pleased to support PACC in their efforts to save more animals and work towards a future without homeless pets.”

The event, located at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd., is sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society. For more information on available pets and services, visit the PACC website.
