Overcrowded PACC shelter to impound more than 100 large dogs

News Article

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is bracing for the arrival of over 100 large dogs, urgently seeking foster homes and adopters to ease the overcrowded conditions at its shelter.

PACC officials report that the dogs are coming from two major cases involving hoarding and abandonment. The larger case is expected to bring around 80 dogs by Friday, August 2.

The shelter is already at capacity with 539 dogs, prompting a plea for help to find space for the new arrivals. “We must intervene when animals’ health and well-being are in jeopardy, as they are in these situations,” said PACC Director Monica Dangler.

All dogs and puppies are available for free adoption, coming fully vetted with spaying/neutering, microchips, and vaccinations. PACC also urgently needs foster homes, especially for large dogs, and can provide supplies depending on donations.

Interested adopters can visit PACC at 4000 N. Silverbell Rd. The facility’s operating hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 1:30 to 7 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pet owners are reminded to keep their pets collared and tagged and to register lost and found pets on Petco Love Lost. More information about available pets and services is accessible on the PACC website.
