Is Outlook down? Here's what we know.

SAN FRANCISCO — Microsoft’s email service, Outlook, encountered a temporary outage on Saturday, affecting users across the United States. The disruption began just before 1 p.m. Pacific Time, 4 p.m. Eastern Time, with reports indicating nearly 40,000 users experienced difficulties accessing their accounts.

After approximately 30 minutes, the volume of outage reports decreased significantly, signaling that some users regained access. Microsoft 365 took to social media platform X to address the issue and assure users that they were investigating the problem.

Initial communications from Microsoft indicated that users might face challenges accessing Outlook features. Subsequent updates revealed they had identified the potential cause and reverted the problematic code, which contributed to service restoration.

During the peak of the outage, the status page claimed that all systems were operational. However, many users reported being unexpectedly logged out or stuck on a loading screen, prompting conversations on social media about the situation.

One user humorously lamented, “Not @Outlook going down when I need it the most,” highlighting the service’s importance during critical moments.

Outlook is designed to unify email, calendars, and contacts for Microsoft users, and is available on both desktop and mobile devices. Notably, other Microsoft services, such as Teams and Skype, have not been affected by this outage. Earlier in the week, Slack had also faced connectivity issues, impacting thousands of its users.
