Nunez and Rivera Shine with Homers as Aztec Softball Dominates Paradise Valley with 36 Runs

The Pima Community College softball team showcased their prowess on Saturday, comfortably defeating Paradise Valley Community College in both games of an ACCAC doubleheader. With this victory, the team improved their overall record to 10-0, maintaining a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
Freshman Jiselle Nunez delivered a stellar performance, achieving a flawless game, while sophomore Natalya Rivera impressively went 4 for 5 across both games, driving in four runs and scoring four times. Further contributing to the lineup, freshman Julissa Lopez had a notable day with a 4 for 6 performance, including an RBI and five runs scored. Freshman Arianna Flores continued her strong showing on the mound, with sophomore Yanelyssia Chavez earning her first season win.
In Game 1, the Aztecs claimed a decisive 17-5 victory over the Pumas after a remarkable 13-run third inning. Nunez ignited the scoring with an RBI double, subsequently hitting a grand slam that brought in three teammates, pushing the score to 12-0. Cheyanne Ortiz also made her mark in that explosive inning with a two-run double, while multiple players, including Alyssa Noriega and Camacho, contributed to the onslaught of runs.
Nunez finalized her effort with a 4 for 4 showing, totaling five RBIs and three runs scored. Camacho added to the mix, finishing 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Taking the win for the game, Flores pitched four innings, allowing only one hit and notching nine strikeouts.
Game 2 further exemplified the team’s dominance, with Pima defeating Paradise Valley 19-2. Rivera began the offensive surge with a two-run homer, and her performance culminated in a 2 for 2 outing with four RBIs. The Aztecs exploded for 14 runs in the fourth inning, with significant contributions from several players, notably Mari Asher and Otero.
Chavez pitched five innings, yielding two earned runs on four hits, while striking out five batters, securing her first win of the season.
Following this successful doubleheader, the Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Softball Field for their next ACCAC conference doubleheader against South Mountain Community College, starting at noon.
