No scheduled highway or freeway closures over Labor Day weekend

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that there will be no full closures for construction or maintenance on state highways, including interstates and Phoenix-area freeways, during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, from Friday afternoon, August 30, to Tuesday morning, September 3.

Despite the absence of closures, ADOT urges drivers to prioritize safety. Motorists should buckle up, adhere to speed limits, and avoid driving under the influence. Additionally, travelers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and remain cautious when navigating existing work zones.

Current work zones include the I-17 Improvement Project, which is underway between Anthem Way and Sunset Point Rest Area. Motorists should also be aware that State Route 89A, located north of Sedona and south of Flagstaff, is experiencing restrictions due to a rockfall mitigation project. Temporary portable signals are in place, directing one-way traffic through the area, leading to potential delays. Alternative routes include using I-17 and SR 179 for travel between Sedona and Flagstaff.

For more detailed information on highway safety and to review a full list of travel restrictions for the weekend, please refer to the ADOT website.
