No indictment for woman in felony DUI, pending further investigation

A man from Lake Havasu City is in the hospital with severe spinal injuries that could lead to paralysis or death. The woman involved in the incident, Mary P. Taylor, faces no felony prosecution at this time, as the investigation continues.

Mohave County prosecutors decided against filing felony charges on October 1. According to sources, the case has been returned to the Lake Havasu City Police Department for further inquiries before any charges are made.

Taylor, an employee at Arizona State University, had posted a $2,500 bond on September 29, which was refunded on Monday. She remains free as investigations progress.

The situation unfolded on September 28, when police responded to a collision at the intersection of Cisco Drive and El Dorado Avenue. Reports indicate that Taylor failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in her colliding with a motorcyclist who was ejected from his vehicle.

Authorities report that the motorcyclist sustained multiple fractures, including a potentially life-threatening injury to his spine. He was subsequently airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital for urgent care.

At the accident scene, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from Taylor’s vehicle, noted to be detectable from 30 feet away. Additionally, visible signs of impairment were observed, prompting officers to request field sobriety tests, which she could not complete satisfactorily.

Following her arrest for suspected DUI, Taylor was transported to the police station for booking. She denied consuming marijuana and provided blood samples for toxicology analysis.

During a search of her vehicle, officers reported finding two marijuana containers; one was empty, while the other contained an unused marijuana cigarette.

Taylor has now been charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property, alongside misdemeanor charges for DUI and causing serious injury during a traffic offense.

As of Wednesday, the victim remains in critical condition and continues to receive medical treatment in Las Vegas.
