New Safety Measures: Rumble Strips Installed on Key Routes to Oatman
A recent project aimed at improving roadway safety in Mohave County has come to fruition. Spearheaded by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), this initiative aimed to tackle the high rate of lane and road-departure crashes in Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley.
Collaborating with the Western Arizona Council of Governments and local authorities, ADOT successfully installed rumble strips on two critical roads leading to Oatman. The installation represents a significant safety enhancement for drivers navigating these often hazardous routes.
The project, which wrapped up recently, included the placement of rumble strips over 30 miles. Specifically, 12 miles of Boundary Cone Road and 18 miles of Oatman Highway received the new safety features, all for a total cost of $667,929.80.
These rumble strips are anticipated to reduce both the frequency and severity of accidents in the area, ultimately benefiting both local residents and tourists visiting the historic ghost town of Oatman.
