New Poll Reveals Overwhelming Backing for Enhanced Border Security via Prop 314

A recent poll indicates Proposition 314, known as the Secure the Border Act, is poised for success this November, garnering 63% support among voters. Meanwhile, only 16% expressed opposition to the measure, according to Noble Predictive Insights (NPI).
The poll reveals a varied response to different components of Prop 314. A significant majority—77%—back the provision holding drug dealers accountable for deaths related to fentanyl use. Similarly, 75% support requiring employers to verify the immigration status of their workers. However, opinions are more divided on reforms related to migrants accessing public benefits, with only 56% in favor.
Revealing the challenges ahead for opponents, Mike Noble, NPI’s Founder and CEO, remarked, “It’s difficult to argue that people are only supportive because of the fentanyl element; that’s what resonates most with voters.” He noted the bipartisan appeal of Prop 314, making it harder for detractors to sway public opinion with just months to go until the election.
Prop 314 emerged from the Arizona Legislature after Republican lawmakers sought to secure border control amid resistance from Governor Katie Hobbs and other Democratic legislators. Although progressive groups attempted to challenge the measure in court to prevent it from appearing on the ballot, those efforts were dismissed, clearing the path for the proposition’s consideration in the upcoming General Election.
Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen emphasized the alignment of the poll results with constituents’ concerns over border security, indicating a disconnect with Democratic lawmakers who uniformly voted against the proposal. “I’m glad the voters will get to decide this,” he stated, reflecting the sentiment shared by many Arizonans.
House Speaker Ben Toma, a key sponsor of Prop 314, echoed these sentiments, asserting that the poll findings reflect widespread frustration with the current administration’s border policies. He expressed confidence in the measure’s potential for meaningful reform aimed at creating safer communities across Arizona.
