New police report says what led to, who was injured in Copper Sky pool brawl

A recently released probable-cause statement sheds light on the events leading to the arrest of 19-year-old Iyanna Shaw on May 25, 2025, in Maricopa. The incident occurred at the Copper Sky Aquatic Center during Memorial Day weekend, involving a significant altercation.

Maricopa Police Department officers arrived just after 4 p.m. to find a crowd leaving the pool area, all engaged in loud confrontations. According to police reports, the fight began as a verbal dispute between Shaw’s relatives and unrelated children at the pool. Efforts by the mother of the children to defuse the situation were reportedly met with escalation.

Shaw allegedly intervened despite the attempts to separate the parties, leading to an evacuation of the pool area by lifeguards. Eyewitness video footage captured the chaos as the family of the children sought refuge within the aquatic center while Shaw pursued them.

Once inside, police observed Shaw striking the mother and her husband multiple times. The mother, visibly injured and holding her child, was reportedly assaulted while her husband sustained bloody injuries to his lips and nose. Witnesses described Shaw as the primary aggressor, noting she initiated the physical confrontation.

Shaw has been charged with misdemeanor counts of assault, endangerment, and disorderly conduct. She now faces the possibility of up to a year and a half in jail.
