NBC’s ‘Brilliant Minds’ Unveils Surprising Arizona Connection on 12News

Tamberla Perry is set to clash with her sister’s past on her new show. The upcoming drama “Brilliant Minds” will air on 12News, the very station where her sister, DeShong Perry, began her career in broadcasting.
PHOENIX — The moment Tamberla Perry read the script for “Brilliant Minds,” she knew she had to play Dr. Carol Pierce. “I knew right away,” she said. “It was a character I really wanted to embody. The script spoke to me.”
Her excitement was mirrored by her sister, DeShong Perry, when she received the news. “I dropped to the ground and screamed,” DeShong recalled. “It wasn’t just her win; it was a triumph for our entire family.”
The NBC drama “Brilliant Minds” is slated to premiere after “The Voice” on September 23. By airing on 12News, it ties back to DeShong Perry’s early days as a newscast producer at the same station.
DeShong recollects her start at 12News vividly. “I balanced work with motherhood,” she said. “I worked the overnight shift with my daughter sleeping under my desk.”
Tamberla’s perseverance through 18 years of acting has paid off. “This role means the world to me,” she said. “The show emphasizes the reality of mental health issues that affect everyone at any time.”
Alongside Tamberla, Zachary Quinto stars as Dr. Oliver Wolf. “Inspired by Dr. Oliver Sacks, ‘Brilliant Minds’ delves into the last great frontier—the human mind,” said Quinto. “It’s about a neurologist and his team navigating their own mental health while making groundbreaking discoveries.”
The show is set in Bronx General Hospital. Zachary Quinto’s Dr. Oliver Wolf, paralleled with Dr. Sacks, attracts Tamberla’s character, Dr. Carol Pierce, to form a formidable team.
“Dr. Pierce is fiercely loyal to Dr. Wolf,” Tamberla explained. “She recruits him to Bronx General because she knows together they can form a neuropsychology Dream Team.”
The Perry family visited the set in support. “When one of us wins, we all win,” said DeShong Perry. “Zach welcomed us and even invited us back. It felt like a victory for our entire family.”
“Brilliant Minds” premieres Monday nights starting September 23. Don’t miss it on 12News.
